Chavez says Obama same as Bush on drug war →
In terms of the global drug war, Obama is pretty status quo I think.
That being said, I’m vaguely hopeful about signs that they’ll let states do as they will with respect to medical marijuana. A tiny, tiny victory, but an important one.

Jeff Jarvis has an interesting post about some old media company. Let me summarize:
They’re really dumb and slow and dumb and slow and dumb and slow and sumb and dlow. And if they’d just listen to me or show up at one of my panels at any number of conferences they might’ve been better off.
But nope, they’re dumb and slow. Oh and buy my book.
(Ok, technically I...

So our biggest fund has an issue. Coming soon to a newsstand near you, I guess. Maybe a line-item on CNBC or something.
Basically, I’m screwed. So I’m home early! This weekend’s my birthday, so I’ll get good and drunk over it and wile away the days until they clean out the place. I figure on a few more checks, then a severance, and...

The last part about free goods I think is really important. It’s not about the Wired dude’s “Free is the new business blah blah blah” it’s about, there’s a lot of free, cool stuff out there these days that...

Economy "Recover"? Please. It Needs To Reboot →

I’ve been thinking about this a lot and I think it defines the difference between the US consumer / economy and the rest of the world going forward. Since WWII and more so since 1981 / Reagan, US growth has been fueled by massive expansions in public and private debt. I don’t think that pace will continue for at least one generation, probably two - it took fifty-plus years after 1929...

I think we’ll see this in parts of NY, and pretty much everywhere. I think it’s kind of sad, actually. I like gentrified, bohemian stuff.
Lots of good comments today on my post about why I’m bullish on Canada.

– Marginal Revolution: Interracial workplace cooperation, or the Steve Nash paper
This may seem trivial, but I actually think it’s kind of important and it goes along with my belief that the best way to achieve racial harmony is for more robust, competitive capitalism.

An "Honest" Discussion About Race?
You hear that phrase a lot. “It’s time we had an honest talk about race in this country.” This week that got play again after comments from the new AG about people being “cowards”.
I actually agree with him that people are cowards on this subject, but what bothers me is that this “Honest talk about race” actually means “Whites need to be honest...
