Andrew Bird — The Fiery Crash
I’ve said before, I think, that I generally find covers of songs to be better than the originals. Well, not necessarily better — I just like them more. I think it’s because the original artist usually just doesn’t have the time, energy or reason to imagine what more a song can be beyond its original version.
A different artist, upon hearing a song, is likely to be able to envision new places they can take the song.
Anyway, a great thing about listening to live Andrew Bird clips, found on the internet, is that he’s always reinventing his songs and making them new. I’d almost say he does covers of his own songs.
This, here, is a fine example.
