Fliers are burning through more frequent-flier miles at a time when rising fares have made flying more expensive, according to a Bloomberg News report carried by The Boston Globe. At the nation’s two biggest carriers — American and United — “passengers are burning through record numbers of frequent-flier points to avoid paying higher fares,” Bloomberg writes. “It makes no sense to sit on these miles anymore,” frequent flier Dan Berman of Atlanta tells Bloomberg. Berman, the CEO of Atlanta-based marketing firm PharmaCentra, says he has redeemed 350,000 Delta miles so far in 2008.
