Why McCain’s Campaign Suspension Didn’t Work This Time
Why didn’t McCain get a bounce in the polls when he “suspended” his campaign to help broker a deal in Washington, DC? After alll, the past two times he did it, it seemed to help him.
The difference: The media. This is McCain’s first time ever running a campaign when the media wasn’t totally pulling for him. That’s why he seems so erratic. In the past, every stunt was portrayed as “bold”, “decisive” and “Maverick-ish”. Or to put it another way, who in the past would’ve even called this a stunt? This was never an issue before.
McCain’s being McCain — the same seat-of-the-pants, unpredictable guy he’s always been. But it worked great with the old McCain-loving media. The new one? It’s not looking so good.
