Phil Ochs, “No Christmas In Kentucky.” A beautiful melody, written to support a strike, perfect for recession Xmas. Somehow, when I hear “miners,” I think “bloggers”:

There’s lots of toys for children when the Christmas time is near
But the present for the miners is a stocking full of fear

Ochs, a topical folksinger who emerged from the same early 60’s Greenwich Village scene as Dylan, never achieved the success his friend and rival did. He descended into paranoia and killed himself in 1976.
