Nutella rant:
I’ll preface this by saying that I’ve never had Nutella before. I’m allergic to hazelnuts (severely) so this is obviously one of life’s pleasures I’ll never get to experience. No biggie.
That being said…
There’s something really irritating about the way Americans act in the presence of Nutella. It’s like, you can be having a totally normal brunch with perfectly respectable people, but then someone brings out the Nutella jar and everyone acts all crazy.
Everyone gets that same giddy smile; that same OMG-this-reminds-me-of-that-time-I-studied-abroad face.
I can’t think of any other food that provokes a similar reaction. Even other sweet foods, so I’m not sure what it’s all about.
I’d say there are three possibilities.
33% chance I’m just totally jealous cause I can’t eat it, and I’m reading too much into people’s reactions.
33% chance it really is the food of the gods, and people’s reactions to it are totally rationa.
And 33% chance people do inexplicably get really annoying and obnoxious around Nutella.
As some of you are no doubt Nutella-philes, I’d love to hear your theories.
