On Intrade “The Reader” is the longest shot to win best picture. Probably a good assessment from the bettors. It didn’t even get great reviews. Still I wonder — and I’m going to invoke my “I’m a Jew so I can say this” card — whether the odds are attractive, simply because it’s kind of related to the holocaust. Remember when that forgettable holocaust doc beat Hoop Dreams for best documentary in the early 90s? There’s always that chance, and I think The Reader probably deserves a bit more of a premium for that reason alone. Though it’s probably a loser, I’m seeing attractive value here for would-be punters.
