An “Honest” Discussion About Race?
You hear that phrase a lot. “It’s time we had an honest talk about race in this country.” This week that got play again after comments from the new AG about people being “cowards”.
I actually agree with him that people are cowards on this subject, but what bothers me is that this “Honest talk about race” actually means “Whites need to be honest about how racist they are”.
But it seems to be me that you can’t have an honest discussion once the first premise is already set. Is a guy like Physics Prof Steve Hsu, who writes intelligently about race, genetics, IQ, Asian Americans, and innate ability welcome to be part of this honest discussion. Is Steve Sailer, who the NYT frequently brands as a bigot (though he’s nothing of the sort), welcome to be part of it? What about the guy who wrote the Bell Curve?
If you disagree with all those guys that’s great. I, for one, wouldn’t begrudge you, but I’m just curious whether they can be part of the discussion without being branded a racist, and thus taken out of it.
