Destroyer — The Crossover

This song is just amazing. Even if you don’t feel like listening to the whole thing, just listen to the first 15 seconds.

As soon as the bass comes in, just a half a beat early, you know the song is going to rock.

But it gets better. The whole thing is a perfect example of building up tension, releasing it, and then trying to bottle it up again.

The next big moment comes at 1:40, when the chorus comes in from a totally orthoganal angle that you didn’t hear coming at all.

And then beneath it all, there’s this lead guitar, squirming to get out, eeking out a few notes here and there before finally getting this chance to triumph in the final stretches of the song.

Of course, the song has a great melody throughout.

Very well done. And what’s even better, it’s all objectively true.
